Die Verlierer: Thanks to Sid Delicious for recco'ing them in the best 21st century records thread. I think you could easily fool someone that this is actually from 1978-81 or so, which is really my sweet spot lately so I'm digging it.
Mizutani Shobodan (Polka-Dot Fire Brigade)
Keeping down that early Japanese punk/new wave theme of recent, this band was put on my plate. Two albums from 1981 and 1985 - both reissued on a Japanese label this year. Fred Frith saw them early on and got involved on the second album. Really strong female vocals - the main driver of the band apparently, and she went on to more stuff with Frith. She's still active today and I ran across this tweet of hers regarding the second album:
"Red Petals Filling the Night Sky"
Simultaneous worldwide release with the first!
The second album, made four years after the first. The mix was finished with help from Fred Frith. I occasionally find a reason to listen to it, but for some reason, I've never thought it sounds dated. Preservatives added? Or maybe because we just did whatever we wanted
