Gimmie Sopor split EP with the main guy from Rat Cage

Will have my ears open for this for sure

ratcharge Reminds me a bit of Bonny Doon

Didn't know about them, will listen to those too - thanks!

knives Kath Bloom comparison for MJL! I saw MJ in Boston open for Ryan Davis. Was suprisingly ok but havent checked out the album.

Kath herself, I heard (probably just on wikipedia), was rediscovered after Caveh Zahidi used her song in his excellent student movie A Little Stiff.

ratcharge In other news tonight I’m listening to the album « Bye bye These are the days » by Kath Bloom, a classic of quiet nights smoking weed in my lving room. I’d say it’s great, heartfelt, melancholic but hopeful folk music.

Nice - i dig pretty much anything Kath does. Her earnestness can feel like a relic.
Dave Shapiro who plays on this one and some others was/ is(?) part of the long running New Haven scene and records solo guitar records under Alexander on C/Site . Pleasant stuff, worth checkin' out if that up yr alley .

Listening to this lately - maybe also kinda melancholic but hopeful in a way as well even though not a clue what they're sayin' --

ratcharge Reminds me a bit of Bonny Doon (haven't listened to their more recent stuff but love their S/T album + "Longwave").

That first Bonny Doon album holds a really special place in my heart. Enjoyed “Longwave” a lot but didn’t really take to their latest album. Going to give it another try this week.

German Embargo's demo

Some listens over the past couple days-

Equipment Pointed Ankh - "Downtown" and "From Inside the House" - really dig this stuff, and can definitely hear the connection between EPA and the Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band record. I don't think my coworkers like it quite as much as me though.

Rock Candy 7" - Listened to this one only several times, really need a copy of the record. Great out there guitar from two top notch players.

The Green Child "Look Familiar" - Sounded amazing last night on a medium dose of mushrooms. "Easy Window" is a wildly great cut.

Randall very exxcited for this SHARP PINS LP. I've been liking everything Perennial Death has been putting out lately. Also how old is this kid?
He is 20

ratcharge Two of my faves.
I'm lucky enough to live in Melbourne and try to catch every Split System live show. They never fail to impress.
Fucking Mess is one fine slab of wax, but for me the A side of Obey is Brainbombs at their best.

Pretty sure this is the first time I ever heard/heard of this early Japanese punky power-pop band Skin. Apparently a big influence on Fifi and/or Fink. Definitely akin to Blue Hearts and related but those bands always seem to have such weak production while the Skin records are much punchier, I guess. Still a lot of karaoke vocal fodder but that's fine because my wife is saying we need to go to karaoke because it's healthy to scream. Hopefully some skin songs are in the karaoke machines...Skin had two albums and then >>poof<<

Speaking of Blue Hearts offshoots - I like this Flamin Groovies rip/tribute for Karaoke, but note how wimpy the production makes it sound imho

Jonny YenAgain RE : Brainbombs, yesterday a friend who's crazy about them told me the same thing about "Obey". As for me, apart from the early singles comp, I'm still discovering – it's not a band I feel like listening to this often, but when I do it's usually for a bunch of consecutive hours/ days/ weeks and then it's over for a while. Before the next phase.

If I was in Melbourne I'd defintely do the same RE: Split System! They're coming back to France in a few months, can't wait.

In other news today it is :

PARIS VIOLENCE - Humeur noires EP
Don't really care for the rest of his vast discography, but to me this record is untouchable, almost shit-fi French punk with lyrics that are more reminescent of a Selby novel than some Chaos en France childishness.

THE VERSATILE NEWTS – Newtrition/ Blimp
UKDIY single that reminds me a lot of TRONICS

    BRAINBOMBS – Obey.
    Indeed.

And tonight it's NOIR BOY GEORGE live at the bar down the street

Saw the Gories play last night and it exceeded all expectations. No practice, no sound check, all borrowed gear. Once they took the stage there was this palpable feeling that given any situation, they could churn it into visceral rock n roll. In the loosest moments there was the intensity of free noise. Up front everything sounded like a drum beating you in the chest and despite a small contingent of moshers (wtf?) it was all dancin and smiles even in the sardine state. Lotsa generational blending-60yr spread between the scrauniest stripey shirt and the scruffiest silver mane. And the moshers were spirited too, not punchy just pushy. truly felt it raw and pure- like mainlining the holy spirit. Listened to all 3 albums last week as excitement mounted, will likely pursue that same ritual tomorrow.

that all depends on whether 1 guy with his back turned to the stage and his fingers in his ears constitutes a mosh pit

11th hour stubble haha. I like to think his fingers were in his ears because he loved it so much he never wanted the sounds to escape his head

Just scored a copy of this insane Swiss fake punk single. Sounds like a mix of X-Ray Spex and Teddy & The Fratgirls/Sheer Smegma.

Been listening to a bunch of Mummies 7"s. Me and my dog were dancing around to them this afternoon.

Got postcards 4 & 5 yesterday and had my first listens and they’re maybe not up to par with the first 3…. Getting a lil too mainstream new wave for my liking with a couple tracks sounding like wannabe Huey Lewis. I love Huey Lewis but this was BAD! Also the AI art on the last two covers is worse than ever haha

peeblood yeah I didn’t end up keeping my copies. 4 turned me onto The Leopards single but nothing else really stuck out. I don’t remember any Huey Lewis songs but this actually has me wanting to go back and give another listen

              11th hour stubble

The first time I saw them was in Seattle in 2010 and it was a top ten all time show. Pretty sure it was the last show of a long tour. Then saw them a couple years later at SXSW for a one off show and it was a bit of a train wreck. Would love to see them again.
