I recently realized I think the Wipers suck ass. I didn't know this was my opinion until they came on randomly in the car and I thought "huh, maybe I don't like the Wipers". Mostly Greg Sage's singing, it's just too darn "earnest" and cornball heartfelt. I realize this may not hold water for most.

All those earlier Minutemen releases were recorded by SPOT and are good but Double Nickels is still my favorite presentation of them. My theory for dislike is that they set a template for the not too reminiscent and less hyperactive RHCP.

I was at a show at the Olympic Auditorium in 1984 featuring both the RHCP and the Minutemen, and I still distinctly remember walking up the stairs and catching Mike Watt asking a seated George Hurley if he wanted to go outside or something, and Hurley saying, "nah, I want to check out the RHCP". Keith Morris "sang" for the Peppers that night:

"We got an opening slot at the Olympic Auditorium. But Anthony in all his junkie splendor did not show up. Keith Morris from the Circle Jerks said "I'll sing" and so we went out with him. We were just playing the songs and he would yell out stuff - whatever he could."
(SSD and Suicidal Tendencies also played!)

I listened to a Dead Moon LP and I just didn’t get on with it! I know folks really dig them.
There was a bit of a Rasberries craze several years back - and I wasn’t fussed about them either.
Others that I find over rated;

Some Billy Childish stuff. One Milkshakes lp and one Mighty Caesars lp is all that you need.

All things ian sovoniouoes sucks. Makes me question some friends’ intelligence, but in some cases i don’t need to. Grown ass fake communist man making lil’ zines, bad music and even worse movies.

Also: Love the Rats, Desperate Edge, etc. But i get why Dead Moon gets on some people’s nerves. Mostly has to do with their fans.

On the Portland tip: Always loved the Wipers, but some of the crybaby lyrics… I think this has been covered in depth on the other goner board (facebook)
