World Of Pooh - Tight And Loose LP (Bulbous Monocle)
The Who Cares Anyway? era of SF rock is a bright spot for me, as I'm just too young [feels great to say that!] to have tangential experience with it BUT now old / weird enough to find losta value & kinda refuge in it. It doesn't have the omnipresence of classic punk (Avengers, Flipper, etc), likely due to the oddball, unfashionable air swirling around it (not to mention the steamrolling of the pivotal people and places that made it). While B.Manning's work is nothing new to me [Lately I Keep Scissors was a formative record during my teens +++ it's how I learned about The Fall], I'd never dove into World Of Pooh. So...Wow...pretty stunned by this singles/rarities collection. Every cool tentpole of subterranean avant indie pop --- NZ fun rumble, moth-eaten paisley, brash drug bash --- all here and all killer. Highest rec! Get it here: http://www.bulbousmonocle.com/products/867003-world-of-pooh-tight-loose
V/A - Lost Coast: Some Visionary Music from California 1980–1992 LP (Goaty Tapes / House Rules)
KBNABS [KIlled By New Age Bullshit].
Fleas Of Mercy - The 8th of May LP (Stucco)
Soft wallop, this one. Cool & unexpected bedroom DIY. Bit of a reach here, but I'm thrown toward Children Maybe Later AND Peace De Résistance equally when hearing this, so it's a blend of those respective spirits. Anyway --- pots/pans percussion, not consciously twee, poetic but punk-rooted, intimate & handmade. Limited to 100 copies!
