Almost started a separate thread for this but decided against it… can you name some songs that are better in the first 10 second intro than the rest of the song? It goes from This Heat meets Mort Garson to, well, a catchy 80s ear worm. Which has been rattling around in my brand on a non stop loop for the past 13 hours

GALORE - Dirt LP (Speakeasy Studios SF)
I've really admired this band since their start but I'm still surprisingly knocked out by this record. Ante upped across the board, scrappiness replaced by confidence, just excellent on all fronts. I've txt'd "TBDB" to like 9 people in the last week, fully obsessed with the tune. Song of the year? Believe they are in the Pacific Northwest now. They rule. Go see them.

ANNIE ACHRON - Never Paradise LP (Siltbreeze)
Synth with an "anyone can do it" feel, very inspiring and cool.

GENTLEMAN JESSE - Singles LP (Beach Impediment)
Soon to be released collection of singles / demos / rarities. Obviously stellar, with a batch of unheard (at least to my ears) demos that take the whole damn cake.

C.A.D. & THE PEACETIME CONSUMERS - Play Atlantis LP (Dot Dash Sounds)
Enjoyed previous stuff [the prior LP > singles, IMO], but this is more like it! Clone Records style rocking weirdness.

Been listening to THE STALIN the past couple days. A great Venn Diagram of crisp Motörhead riffs, grunted melodies, powerful drumming, and other stuff I like.

In true discogs fashion the LPs plus shipping will run you about $100 bucks. Any of you fine labels out there care to reissue this one? General Speech perhaps?

Leatherface - The Peel Sessions: Excellent quality, song wise you know what you're gonna get here.

Sleepytime Trio - Butter Scaryflies (remaster/remixed): This sounds great; easily better than the late 90s original (which was a bit muddy). Lovitt Records says more to come so I'm hoping for a full re mix/master/issue of this band I'd lazily describe as "Slint x screamo"

Datblygu - Pyst and Wyau LPs (Hate Records. reissues)
Interest mightily reinvigorated via a recent radio jaunt I did w/Stan & Nate from Famous Mammals [can be heard here, whole show's good!]. Stan played a Peel take, so I had to fish these out and they haven't left the play pile for a couple weeks now. YES OF COURSE these trace the imaginary line from The Fall through Country Teasers, but I've been playing these a shit-ton more than either of those recently. Totally fucking fabulous records.

Instigators - Phoenix. Absolute top-rate 80s UKHC. We haven't produced that many great hardcore bands in my eyes, but the best of them have been immense: HDQ, Ripcord, Depraved/Visions of Change, Imbalance, Voorhees.
Supercharger -s/t. It's the best. Really love bands recording an album before they've played live, baller move.
Leatherface - BBC Sessions. Live-in-the-studio recordings from my favourite band, what's not to love.
Worst Worry - s/t. Janie Too Bad from Black Time does kinda witchy garage-folk stuff. Quite ethereal in places, but never forgettable.
Madlib - Rock Konducta I & II. The psych-rock entries in Madlib's beat tape series. Instrumental hip-hop that never misses a vocal, it's not a delivery vehicle.

I bought these when they came out and was really into them, but I haven’t really kept up with Madlib. seems like he’s just an in demand producer now and doesn’t do much of the solo instrumental work. too bad. I also like that album where he samples all Blue Note records. I think I read somewhere fairly recently that he makes all of his beats digitally now. lame!

very sick song. I dig this one a lot too, and now that you mention it, the riff on this song could also be a Greg Sage riff! interesting! could he have been an influence?
