V/A - Vuota Beatitudine LP [Lowlife Cartel]
Not a lite meal, that's for sure. Local shop lauded this one w/guns ablazing, so I took a shot. Experimental shits, no subtlety, with the label using phrases like "chopped-and-screwed" and "satisfyingly weird" as descriptors. Will do them one better: drug dance panic. Conjures images of a slender meth man computing away furiously in squalor, wearing only sweated-out white briefs, perchecd next to a mountain of plated cigg butts and mostly spent Mr. Pibb 2-liters. I've been him. He was me.
Cube - Lucky Numbers & True Weight LP [Digital Regress]
This gent aims at some of the madness dished above, but it's easier for ROCKERS to cling to. I wouldn't rate this quite as high as Decoy Street, but the good moments are jolly good. Going to the mall while zoo'd out, sex with a friend's mom, bucket hats in the wind, crumpled Arizona green tea tall cans, etc. Beauty = Deviance.
Look Blue Go Purple - LBGPEP2 12" [Flying Nun]
Nabbed my beloved's most-wanted disque last week and we've been bumping it solid since arrival. Mix is different from (and superior to!) the collection and the loudness of the FN 12"s never stops makin' me smile. Their apex, their Boodle. Not chatted up enough.
Roman Norfleet & Be Present Art Group - S/T LP [Mississippi Records]
The Cosmic Tones Research Trio brought me here. Do any of y'all fuck with that one? Love it!!! This one's more active, still heavily spiritual and quite good. Do they play regularly in Portland? Need to go see them / eat at Clyde's.
Pachyman - Another Place LP [ATO]
A distictinve attack and sound on display here, as opposed to his other work, which was that of an enthusiastic dub reinterpreter (also good!). Will likely become a gigantic success.
