jm Terry Ork isn't obscure or anything, but I'd like to see something substantial on him -- a solid biography or something. Another one of those guys like McLaren or Bernie Rhodes or Kickboy Face who'd predated punk by a decade or so.

I interviewed Kenneth Higney maybe 13 years ago and he told me Ork was gonna release his "Funky Kinky" single but the imprint folded. This came as a shock to me. A couple years later his tracks were included on the Ork boxset. Kenneth was a great guy. Super affable. One of the nicer people I've spoken with over the years.

from what i heard from the pop stars of punk (chris stamey, jon tiven, marbles), Ork had a really ugly side so it'd be cool to read more about that. The Ork Records box set booklet is essential reading too.

ratcharge Today I'm listening to NOIR BOY GEORGE latest cassette and I'm glad it exists. Together with TAULARD and I-don't-know-who-else it's up there in my top 10 of French music of the past 20 years.

BARELY HUMAN Yeah I'd be curious to heard the opinion of someone who doesn't speak French, as part of the appeal is that it's great urban poetry from the gutter or something.

Listening to the singles compilations with The Ar-Kaics and Angry Angles. I usually dismiss 60s neo garage as boring cosplay music, but The Ar-Kaics are the real deal. Their songs transcend time and space and stand on their own.

Bought the Angry Angles singles back in the day, but a collection is still nice. Great band that could be seen as a bridge between Lost Sound's abrasive synth punk and Jay Reatard's more poppy sound, which he began to explore more in depth with his subsequent solo material.

Kelley Stoltz - The Stylist
Feel like I may have unjustly pulled short shrift bullshit when this hit. Kelley LPs are all gems, but I’m set to slot this higher than his Castle Face LPs. One where the execution and playfulness keep great pace with each other. New Bomb Turks are name-checked.

Really loving the Spatulas record lately. Was on a strick blues diet when it came out last year so I missed the train first go around... very happy to be on board now though. Some highly captivating lyrics throughout, plus all that subtly rippin guitar... Great stuff user: moodymcphatter!

Also, the first couple of Deviants records. This one's ringing loud and clear through the ages:

Wanted to hop on and say something snarky like "what're you gonna do with them??" when I read this earlier today, but then I heard about ten of his songs in a row on WFMU and got the message that he died. RIP Bill.

All of the State Champion records. I got into Ryan Davis' music after Dancing on Edge was released over a year ago and have been obsessed with his output, particularly his work in State Champion but also Equipment Pointed Ankh. Incredible artist. Can't believe he isn't as recognized as he should be but so it goes...

Char-Man LP from last year has really grown on me. For all the various styles of punk, it's refreshing to hear a straight ahead ROCK album.

Also this PyPy LP, which I've had for a few months now, but only really "hit" as I'm listening via headphones. Lots of cool parts that I missed via the analog format (it happens sometimes!).
