Just got this new release by a local experimental musician reccomended. "Loop-based yodeling with strong homoerotic undertones". Two trakcs in and enjoying so far...
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO AND WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT IT?
So far this morning at work before anyone else has showed up to commandeer the stereo-
RMFC - “Club Hits” - I don’t know much about egg punk or think I liked it, but I like this. And they were fantastic at Gonerfest.
Heavy Mother II - kind of hard to go wrong here, this record really lines up for me. Love it. Dig the far out moments that to me evoke Hawkwind(flute). Which lead me to….
Hawkwind - “Live at the BBC” - such a killer collection of cuts from the band at the peak of their power.

The Walthamstow Zeros
Mystery_Ship RMFC - “Club Hits” - I don’t know much about egg punk or think I liked it, but I like this. And they were fantastic at Gonerfest.
yeah I got to see them on the west coast twice and was really blown away. Great band and a killer LP
While they great egg punk debate rages on I'm over here trying to figure out if my mother was a punk or not?
COUNTER INTUITS - Sheets Of Hits
COUNTER INTUITS - Monosyllabilly
The Counter Intuits sound like a lo-fi sonic collage, a dusty vinyl skipping between crooked guitars and lurching rhythms. Ron House’s voice is a visionary rasp leading the chaos with odd coherence, like a pirate radio station broadcasting from a parallel universe.
- The Gories - The Shaw Tapes. I mean, what needs to be said.
- The Bobbyteens - Cruisin' For a Bruisin'. I don't know why always assumed this would be pony considering the personal what are on it. It's class, and I'm a fool.
- Lauer - Answers 2 Trouble. It's like an Italo New Order. Spirited, super catchy and probably to the tastes of no-one else here. Hell, I don't listen to much that sounds like this. Lauer's great though. He was in that thrashcore band Destroyer in the 00s.
- The Spells - The Age of Backwards. It's Mary Timony and Carrie Brownstein. A precursor to Wild Flag, good indie stuff.
5 Deadly Venoms of Brooklyn mixtape. An all-timer. Tony Touch, Evil Dee, PF Cuttin', DJ Premier and Mister Cee all kill it.
This record was tucked away in my dad’s collection and profoundly upset me when I was a kid. As a deeply disturbed adult I very much have been digging it lately.
Johnny Sick Best band! Can anyone comment on once rumored follow up 2x LP?
Randall Wow! Now that would be amazing. The Counter Intuits LPs are some of the best stuff he’s ever done. Modern classics.
Randall I was supposed to do a third Counter Intuits LP. Ron was having some writers block so he sent me a single to put out in the meantime. Last I spoke to him he was still on a writing hiatus. I hope there is more to come though.
get outta here! those LP's are so good... hope he finds the love for it and can get back in the Counter Intuits rhythm again

Tonight’s spins so far-
Spits - first LP- saw they played Vancouver this week and made me reminisce about seeing them 20 years ago. Great record, I H8 Pussies is and all time punker
Great Plains - Sums It Up - mostly really dig this one, but for sure sounds like a band going in a bunch of different directions. Born in a Barn is my go LP to for them.
Gibson Bros - the Man Who Loved Couch Dancing- Perfect LP. Perfect band. Love the A-Bones clip. How many times has Don Howland recorded “Broke Down Engine”?
Revisiting 70’s CLEPUNK again…

Human Eye - 4:Into Unknown ( Goner) Human Eye's last full length and Timmy's proggiest. at this point this might be my favorite HE album. it's got the Timmy stomping fuzzfests like "Juicy Jaw" AND the stun guitar prog epics like "Lone Wolf" and "Pluto."
Redd Kross - Nuerotica 2xLp ( Merge) I never knew this got re-released with the Spinhead Sessions demos until reading the book. Been on pretty steady rotation since I got it a few weeks ago. Demos are fun, but not necessarily essential unless you are a big fan of the band or album ( I am both)
Heavy Mother II - S/T ( Total Punk) So good to hear these songs from my turn table after having mp3's for a while now. Proto punk fun. I always feel like spinning my Tommy Jay records after listening to this. Wish I could see Corporate Retreat set with Runyon and Derr in the backing band. they will be so perfect
Lavender Flu - Standing in the Sand by the Pool (ITR) still! this album is so good.
The latest Son of Dribble record keeps finding its way back to the top of my playlist the past month of so.
My man decided to pull a random record off my shelf and grabbed this one today. Almost forgot how good it was!
Really like that Workers Comp LP after seeing a few of you post about it here. Gotta pick that one up.
Anyone into Adrian Orange? Got turned onto him by my pals at Hex Enduction in Seattle and can't stop listening to his two LPs over the past few years:
- Don't know the whole story but seems like all the PNW indie/punk crew got together and recorded a "proper" album with him.
- I heard this one second, but I think it's become my fave.
filthqueen666 I still play this one all the time. Originally bought it from the band when they came through New Mexico with Osees, probably 2010. I remember that I had lost a lot of interest in music at that point in my life. TC shocked me out of my doldrums. I formed a new band almost right after the show.
The Gits remasters
Randall My dad worked at Muntz Stereo on the Sunset Strip in '67 before getting drafted. Mad Man Muntz was critical in the development of 4 and then 8-track tapes. Anyway, my dad installed the 8-track in Arthur Lee's well-known Porsche. He went to do some wiring and a bunch of joints fell out of the glove box. Muntz Stereo on the Strip was the building that eventually became Tower Records. There were a couple of location in Southern CA.

Had WMFU on in the morning. I listen to Todd O Phonic Todd often on Sunday morning (Melbourne time).
Then a bit of Boss Radio 66.
Latest vinyl purchase has had a play today, got the Da Slyme comp If There's No Rubble You Haven't Played. Nice rough and raw old school punk.
Big thanks to whoever posted about Post Teens. Never heard of them before. That was right up my alley.
Today I'm listening to NOIR BOY GEORGE latest cassette and I'm glad it exists. Together with TAULARD and I-don't-know-who-else it's up there in my top 10 of French music of the past 20 years.
having a morning tea and listening to all my favourite Yellow Magic Orchestra produced tracks to ease into the day.
"
and for breakfast desert, one of the greatest of all time
perfect way to start my day
spent the weekend seeing a lot of live music, maybe that merits it's own thread?
Bloodshot bill playing to 25 people with an out of tune acoustic and taking requests. pretty great, he has so much dirtbag charisma, i don't own any of his records, but i've seen him play in different permutations over the past 15-20 yrs and he is a real showman. His Hasil is uncanny, but this was a more trad sing song affair and enjoyable.
Later: New club in Montreal that used to be a venue 15-20 yrs ago and is back with a different name. It's under a spanish club, so popped in on some flamenco which was nice for one beer. Lotsa dancing and the room had a wholesome drunk on. Downstairs in the punk dungeon I caught Durex, a local punk band that has been going for a year or two that I had yet to see. They were pretty rockin and had some wild licks interspersed with a more straight ahead attack. everyone all night was talking eggpunk irl, haha. Last night I saw Population ii, a local psych/prog outfit that i haden't seen since we gigged together in their first year or 2. They were playing a film fest and the room was rammed. It was pretty hot shit and with the right amount of leafy haze really hit the spot. They have a goofy mideivel stance, no costumes just an aura, which is kinda endearing and they are so in synch with eachother that it is quite something to watch. The instrumental grooves/ herky jerky turn on a dime moments are where it's at. No idea if their recordings do it justice.
At home: my friend sent me mp3s of this obscure industrialish tape from 86 ontario, and I spent lotsa time with that. Wigglepig - https://www.discogs.com/release/3895929-Wigglepig-Meat-Market-Icons
today I will bring my Bill Fay records out.
peeblood Nick Nicely
The Hilly Fields (1892)/49 Cigars 7" is sooooo good. Recently found it locally for pocket change
This thing reminds me of a faster State Children. It's good!
A rediscovered one from last year for me. If anyone knows any stateside distros w this LP, please me let me know!

FFanzeen: How did Terry Ork approach you to do the record?
Jim Clifford: Over a joint.
David Bowler: He got us our first gig at CBGB on the same bill as the Ramones. And I work at Cinemabilia [with Ork]
Howard Bowler: He likes the band. He wanted to do a single … and he was picking bands he wanted to record. He started with Television. The second was …
Eric Li: Hell. Richard Hell.
David Bowler: Then we came out.
Jim Clifford: Then he went berserk.
Howard Bowler: And we haven’t seen him since [laughs].
jm Terry Ork isn't obscure or anything, but I'd like to see something substantial on him -- a solid biography or something. Another one of those guys like McLaren or Bernie Rhodes or Kickboy Face who'd predated punk by a decade or so.
I interviewed Kenneth Higney maybe 13 years ago and he told me Ork was gonna release his "Funky Kinky" single but the imprint folded. This came as a shock to me. A couple years later his tracks were included on the Ork boxset. Kenneth was a great guy. Super affable. One of the nicer people I've spoken with over the years.
from what i heard from the pop stars of punk (chris stamey, jon tiven, marbles), Ork had a really ugly side so it'd be cool to read more about that. The Ork Records box set booklet is essential reading too.
ratcharge Today I'm listening to NOIR BOY GEORGE latest cassette and I'm glad it exists. Together with TAULARD and I-don't-know-who-else it's up there in my top 10 of French music of the past 20 years.
ah i remember you mentioning them ages ago, i listeend then and haven't gone back.. gonna revisit tonight! thanks for the reminder

BARELY HUMAN Yeah I'd be curious to heard the opinion of someone who doesn't speak French, as part of the appeal is that it's great urban poetry from the gutter or something.
I would start with this one instead of the one I posted above :
Listening to the singles compilations with The Ar-Kaics and Angry Angles. I usually dismiss 60s neo garage as boring cosplay music, but The Ar-Kaics are the real deal. Their songs transcend time and space and stand on their own.
Bought the Angry Angles singles back in the day, but a collection is still nice. Great band that could be seen as a bridge between Lost Sound's abrasive synth punk and Jay Reatard's more poppy sound, which he began to explore more in depth with his subsequent solo material.
