Nathan Loud This thread is prolific and I have so much to catch up on. This was the first thing that came to mind. Famously covered by The Spits. I also think about this all the time. (I live in Portland.)
Al Dorado Nathan Loud @Vinnie Vacuum TV 'fake punk' compilation. Also has the Fear on SNL tracks https://www.discogs.com/release/27840072-Various-Punxploitation
Nathan Loud Emil M. Antonowsky I love that first track! When is fake punk just punk??? 🧐 I would love to start a punk band that's pretending to be a fake punk band. Fake fake punk.
Luc At Tomorrow Not strictly "punk" by the standards, but this is another French exploitation record that I absolutely love and DJ every time. Both singers were young cinema actresses.
Jonny YenAgain Maybe not fake punk, but fake New Wave. This is from an early 80's Oz TV series called Sweet and Sour. lots of real (non punk) local musicians performed and sang on the sound track.
Randall dr_chile the entire film is now up on youtube. They crowdsourced this and I gave $50. You were supposed to get a King of Punk t shirt and your name in the credits or somethin. I never got anything but a link to watch it and an apology to everyone who gave money and got nothing in the credits. That was good enough for me. Lots of familiar New Orleans faces plus tracks by Nancy, Coneheads, and Mystic Inane.
Vinnie Vacuum would anyone classify VOM as fake punk? i seem to recall reading somewhere that meltzer seemed somewhat earnest in his efforts to have a punk group, but credentials/greatness aside it does lend itself more to the silly side. let the debate begin...
