Randall Das stimmt. I refuse to pay for PR. I'd rather allocate that money into future releases or put more money into assisting bands. I also view it as simply contributing to the problem.
After decades, I think people have just assumed that PR-paraphrased record reviews appearing on most sites is rock journalism. It's brutal. I recently got a couple of OG copies of Slash -- the last one with Darby and the David Byrne issue -- and I'm constantly impressed by the quality. I did a lot of work on Gun Club and the NY Rocker piece -- Ira Kaplan's interview as I recall -- was excellent. It's not that people can't write critically and intelligently like that anymore. There are just few forums for it. I saw the business model collapse.
