I check out those and a few youtube channels to hear new stuff often.

I like Faster and Louder... he doesnt review things he doesnt like, so hes really enthusiastic over things he really likes. Sometimes I need that. It doesnt hurt that he really likes my bands.

It all kind of ended for me when Termbo died. I was trying to keep that going near the end with interviews. In its prime, I could move a couple dozen 7"s by posting on the forum alone and the reviews/content were totally free of PR influence. I'm hoping this forum can revitalize some of what was lost with Termbo's demise. It was vitally important for underground music.

Other than that, WMFU and KDVS give music that John Peel attention.

This was a large motivator for me starting the board. I had been thinking a lot about how dependent my label had become on social media and how much I wished that weren’t the case, which got me thinking back to how I used to be able to post new releases there and it would result in actual sales.

Every time I read the month's update to Yellow Green Red, I feel like the lousiest music writer. How can someone have such a breadth of knowledge and know so much about seemingly EVERY genre? Then package it all in punchy writing with a singular voice that's full of character. Meanwhile every review I've written lately feels like I've been banging rocks together trying to think of some reference point or angle that isn't tired. Anyway great write ups this month over there.

Just kidding I really like his writing, primarily cause it's actually entertaining! that and pretty open minded and self aware in terms of "journalistic authority" and subjectivity, etc. but yeah main thing is he allows himself to be funny.

Hahaha, well I can't pretend I don't have some emo bands I really like too. I'm mostly a 90s emo purist, though. Never owned a white belt in my life.

His sense of humor and conversational tone are excellent! Even if he's reviewing some techno 12" I'll never have the chance or interest to listen to, I always find it entertaining.

ISO…. Years ago, probably like 2011, I was really into this tumblr account called DocShoe. It was just this guy who just posted what he was listening to almost daily and it was super critical to the development of my musical taste. I still think about it from time to time. However, the account has been inactive since like 2014. Docshoe, are you out there? Are you here?

Randall Das stimmt. I refuse to pay for PR. I'd rather allocate that money into future releases or put more money into assisting bands. I also view it as simply contributing to the problem.

After decades, I think people have just assumed that PR-paraphrased record reviews appearing on most sites is rock journalism. It's brutal. I recently got a couple of OG copies of Slash -- the last one with Darby and the David Byrne issue -- and I'm constantly impressed by the quality. I did a lot of work on Gun Club and the NY Rocker piece -- Ira Kaplan's interview as I recall -- was excellent. It's not that people can't write critically and intelligently like that anymore. There are just few forums for it. I saw the business model collapse.

Oh god it pains me just reading those words. I've barely been on instagram the last few weeks and have barely thought about the finding different ways to post the same thing problem. Glad its working out for you and that you are enjoying being here.
