I noticed they played a show in Chicago last night. anyone go? was it just a one-off gig? any plans for more shows or plans to record? is Lars in the band? who’s got the lowdown?!

problemface I know they played Madison the night before. I saw a pic and it didn’t look like Lars, but I also haven’t seen him in a long time. I asked them to play the retreat last year and they turned me down. I thought about asking them again but assumed they would just turn me down. A few weeks after I had everything booked I saw they had the two Midwest dates. I hope they play more shows. I never got to see them the first go around

I think it was just one or two shows for a friend's birthday. I saw some clips. Sounded good! The Seattle show in 2023 was great. Looked like maybe Tommy drumming from the clip I saw?

I checked with someone I know who went to the Chicago show. He said Lars is in the band. Just the two shows planned (Madison, Chicago). No idea about more shows.

The Touch The Feel

Just staring into the darkness imagining what could have been. A pre Corp Fest show with Lavender Flu, A Frames, The Drags.

All 3 of them and the Cheater Slicks doing a Saturday afternoon all hands on deck Louie Louie. It all seemed so real. Maybe The Dirtys fly in unannounced last minute.

didn’t know about the Chicago show until the day of. I would have totally gone had I been more plugged in. they’re one of my favorite bands and I have never seen them. looks like John Dwyer DJ’d and Whipper also played. I saw Lars drum with Oh Sees years ago in what is still my favorite lineup of theirs. hopefully A Frames become active again.

What do we think about the genetics of A-Frames? One thing they do well is sounding like themselves, but surely there is a family tree.

Who came before and who came after?

Some quick thoughts: The Birthday Party, Spray Paint. Who else?

fuuuck I forgot about that Katate Party record! gonna have that on repeat the next day or two. I should revisit those Mayyors records too. Chris Woodhouse engineered all three A Frames LPs, correct? the AFCGT LP on Sub Pop is dope and I believe features the three members of A Frames. of course the Intelligence and everyone Lars has been involved with. the Bend Sinister (pre-A Frames) recordings are excellent too.

Spray Paint, Tropical Trash, the second Lamps LP, Soft Shoulder: all have a strong A Frames influence

Love it. I kinda forgot about Karate Party.

I liked the AFCGT stuff I’ve heard but maybe I’d like it more now that I’m in my 40s and have a CAN t-shirt.

Someday I’ll be young again, buy a red convertible and blast A-Frames “333,” the Portland mist blowing through my hair. The songwriting and production values cannot be topped!

Also Dreamsalon, Unnatural Helpers and Double Fudge for other bands in the literal family tree. Children's Hospital and Idol Ko Si as well.

As far as influences I'd say I hear a lot of X (Australia) in A Frames. Makes sense that they covered them. I've also wondered if they were at all influenced by early Old Time Relijun or Microphones. Especially for the drumming/rhythm. Keep on forgetting to ask.

I can kinda see Old Time Relijun in the drumming like you said. but Microphones? the indie-folk band? what do you hear in them that may have influenced A Frames?
