JL was probably the toughest, loudest, most out-there band I'd seen at the ripe age of 15 and they'll always hold a special place in my heart. Though at the Rev Hall show earlier this year I found that I just didn't have the gusto to fight my way up to the front with the rest of the neckbeards. Like, I am not going to fight a dude for the chance to touch Yow's floppy wang. That ship has sailed.
On that note, as much as I appreciate Steve Albini's engineering and writing, etc. I could never really get into Big Black or Shellac. Too... edgelordy? I need an unhinged sloppy wildman to undercut the math-rock being coldly executed behind him, I guess.
