Emil M. Antonowsky knives Only heard the first. The stuff after that i heard sounds like Red Hot Chili Peppers
terminalsunset Am I missing something with the Mekons? Feel like they've been hyped up my whole life, but it just does almost nothing for me. Is it just, like, Anglicized Americana?
Guy Lombardont terminalsunset the early Mekons (where were you/never been in a riot/snow etc) singles are tops. Though thier first lp is a little stiff comparatively and from what ive checked out it gets spotty after that. They have so many albums I haven't bothered checking so I could be missing a gem or two. Fear and whiskey is a great lp tho. Perfect blend of post punk and country licks if that's your jam
Clif Guy Lombardont this! those first 2 singles are amazing. diminishing returns thereafter, for me at least
terminalsunset Guy Lombardont Post-punk with country licks should absolutely be my jam, which is why I've always been confused as to why they don't click for me. Maybe I'll try Fear and Whiskey again!
Gimmie Sopor terminalsunset Post-punk with country licks should absolutely be my jam, which is why I've always been confused as to why they don't click for me. Maybe I'll try Fear and Whiskey again! Fear & Whiskey is easily the best Mekons album I've heard. Weird country that has the same loose approach to the genre as Gibson Bros, Jon Wayne and Country Teasers/The Rebel.
Gimmie Sopor Suburban Lawns. I'm into a lot of bands in the same vein, but I just find SL to be boring and annoying.
Emil M. Antonowsky Gimmie Sopor Fear & Whiskey is easily the best Mekons album I've heard. This is really good.
Vinnie Vacuum idles, amyl and the sniffers, viagra boys, murder city devils, fugazi, talking heads, wilco
11th hour stubble ratcharge surely you are joking. Your taste in art and music and violent appraisal of human spirit seem like the perfect set up for appreciation of at least hardcore devo. Plus ohio protopunk fetishism and whats not to like? let's unpack this.
ratcharge 11th hour stubble Never got it or tried to or even cared. Always sounded like some kind of bad retro dance music to my ears. + I find the way this guy sings highly embarrassing. And what's up with the ridiculous hats ?
ratcharge Also, what seems to be their "main album" was produced by the same guy as a bunch of U2 records.
Gimmie Sopor ratcharge Also, what seems to be their "main album" was produced by the same guy as a bunch of U2 records. Come on! There are plenty of great albums with producers behind the mixing desk who are also responsible for shitloads of crap. Seriously, check out Hardcore DEVO vol 1 & 2. I'd be really surprised if you didn't like them, at least bits and pieces.
ExpKind ratcharge the same guy as a bunch of U2 records Feel like he might have done a couple other things in his career. Also, as far as the studio albums, Duty Now for the Future is Eno-free and has some of their best songs.
