This morning I'm playing some recent purchases on the turntable:
Freddy Lynxx and The Jet Boys/The Remains Split - Freddy side produced by Glen Matlock, The Remains from Japan ft Hiroshi the Golden Arm, not the '60s band. Pretty cool single, both bands have separate long "thank you" sections on the back of the sleeve shouting out people like "the Boston & New York rockers," Jeff Dahl, and The Cynics. "Dedicated to the Man with The Golden Arm and all the NY Dolls disciples"
Band of Outsiders - Armistice Day LP - Recorded live at CBGB in 1988. Liner notes from Jeremy Gluck of the Barracudas. Solid meat and potatoes sound, Nikki Sudden guests on a few tracks. Kind of tedious opening instrumental track. The sound is somewhere at the crossroads of Flamin' Groovies style power pop and low-key, VU inspired rocking. The singer's voice bears a passing resemblance to Tom Verlaine on some of the tracks. Good record, but not exactly greater than the sum of its parts.
