I see value in nearly all of Perry's stepping out/against. Reflections, Good Missionairies, ATV --- will lap it all up and ask for more. A faithful/foreshadowing take on a Ken Boothe reggae classic + instant annoyance aided by The Door And The Window folks.
Kevin Ayers - Rainbow Takeaway LP (Harvest)
This and Sweet Deceiver feel like secret weapons in Ayers' discography, 'least to me. Play them both lots more than Joy... or Shooting..., for example. Sex in the chillzone.
Strassenjungs – Dauerlutscher LP (CBS)
People only laugh at this, right? I think it's fun and stupid. Seems odd (not unjustified, just odd) that bands like Big Balls And The Great White Idiot, PVC and Pack got more traction than this, something that surely got shit-tons more exposure upon release than the above-mentioned bangers. Guess it's the real vs. fake debate at play 'n' in practice. Still, a very cheap thrill nonetheless.
Tracey Thorn – A Distant Shore LP (Cherry Red)
Marine Girls lady, all by her lonesome. Possesses expected levels of charm. I shant proceed further than this, as that would require a sweater.
Tina Fulker – Collected Works LP (Zaius)
Biggest wallop in several months, best thang I've heard in ages. UK poet visits US in mid-80s, records some of the poems with a band backing, results are stunning and scratches all DIY itches. Guess the cease/desist came down quick, but it's still out there, somewhere, waiting for you!
