Same. My introduction to the Groovies was the song Teenage Head which blew my mind. I then sought out the first few LPs. Nothing else captured the ferocity of TH but it’s all great. Was very disappointed when I heard the highly praised “Shake Some Action.” Maybe it will click more for me when I reach my polka dots and stripes phase.

Fairly certain that ‘Shake Some Action’ will hit for Randall someday soon.

Choosing records from the stacks at home using the alphabet in a kind of random way and a 60 sided die in a very straight forward one.

First pull was ‘Under The Influence’ (guilty as charged) by Ken Hyder’s Big Team. Square ass cover hides an above (way above, imo) average free jazz record that manages to not overstay its welcome. Will I ever reach for it again on purpose? Unlikely. Am I glad that I made cold broccoli salad with it as the soundtrack? You bet.

The letter/# system then had me putting on a Perverted Ceremony record. Which one? Who cares? 3-5 minutes in and I was out.

To make up for that, the gods went and pulled the Beckies LP for me. It’s SO nice to be back home.

I’ve been making my way through the Six Finger Satellite catalog and all of their different incarnations. what a band. I had heard Severe Exposure, which is phenomenal. and the first LP, but that’s it. this follow-up EP to Severe Exposure is like the sweet spot between the weird electro-punk of the earlier stuff and the more spacey, krautrock influenced work that came later

Def enjoy SFS. Whenever, I think about Six Finger, I think about Arab on Radar.

Got to thinking about seeing Chinese Stars (AoR singer & drummer & SFS drummer playing bass) once when I was traveling through NM and they happened to be playing in some weird garage thing in Sante Fe. For some reason I bought a book of poetry by Eric Paul at the show. It is not astounding or anything. Touring musician realism. Is that a genre? This one is the reason I bought it at the time. Still makes me laugh.
