Also been in a deep appreciation of the Sic Alps' catalog this week. Really a great band with consistent and productive output. Great songs—total vibe-casting of the sonic-spiritual breadth. They make it look easy and probably could have put out a zillion records if they wanted to.

Randall Man, I logged on here specifically to gush about this record. Amazing stuff. Can't believe I didn't know about this band. The Gibson Bros comparisons are spot on. I also hear a lot of Sunburned Hand of the Man in their spacier moments. Incredible.

Yes the new Midnight Mines is incredible. Blistering psych heaven. Dude never misses. Was turned on to his stuff on the old board, along with other LOKI label releases.

Gave the new Home Front (Watch It Die) a listen today. Was at the gym so not actively listening but liking it a lot. If you dig their earlier stuff this will hit the spot. Mail brought the Drags - Stop Rock and Roll and Lush - Gala 35th Anniversary 3x12" + 7". Guess it's a garage punk and shoegaze Friday.

Listening to this album by australian band Vampire. Guess this hc/punk with strong anarcho punk vibes. Saw them live in june and really liked them but for some reason i havnt listened to the album until now. Great stuff.

Vision Creation Newsun by the Boredoms came on shuffle during my run the other day and I can't stop listening to it. Joyful and cathartic. Exactly what I need to hear these days. Amazing.

First Boredoms I heard was a promo cassette for Super Roots 6 that I played endlessly in my beaten-up Mazda 6, and it's minimal kinda depressing sounds were a perfect fit for cruising the surface streets of Los Angeles (as my dying car could no longer make it to 55 mph) and my personal financial nadir (spiritually rich tho). A few years later, I found myself teaching in Japan, blasting Vision Creation Newsun on the bullet train, off to Osaka to raid the record stores - thinking again that the amped-up motorik beat and spacy sounds really matched the ride...

I saw the Boredoms perform with 88 drummers in 2008 at the La Brea Tar Pits. I think they did the same thing the previous year with 77 drummers assembled somewhere in Brooklyn. I was broke and didn’t have a ticket for entry, so me and another dude I met there snuck up onto the roof of the Screen Actor’s Guild building, which overlooks the park and had a bird’s eye view of the whole thing. amazing night.

problemface Man, I remember this. Was instantly jealous of every coastal elite when this happened. What a concept! I wonder how Yamantaka's doing. He was so prolific for a long time but I don't think he's released anything in the past 5-10 years??

Paris 1942 - Superior Viaduct records. I have been really grooving to this lately. The longer improvised stuff like Headhunter used to not interest me as much, but I am getting into it the more I listen. Covers lp is great too.

Midnight Mines - Feel I am Slipping Away Now - I will join the chorus praising the new one. Slug Train in particular is killing me. The last song seems, If Destroyed Still True, seems the only weak link so far. Probably their most consistent release.

Endless Boogie - Long Island double lp - my go to late night lp of the moment. Put it one and zone out. I need to try harder with Prison because it didn't really take the first time around.

Plus, lots of Beatles with binge re-watching the Anthology as it is released on Disney on the holiday weekend. Not punk, but great music

I picked up this book パンクス青の時代 recently at Disk Shop Misery in Hiroshima; I'd seen it advertised recently. I think there was an art show linked to its release, and this documentary as well:

I can't read Japanese very well, but the photos and posters are really cool to see. And yeah like you said, there is so much info on these early punk scenes in Japan in books but little in documentary form, let alone in English. Here's hoping some day a bit more gets translated.

dr_chile this is his latest project. he performed at a festival a couple months ago but I couldn’t find footage of that. sounds like he does DJ sets fairly often and visual art. I think it’s safe to say he’s a genius.
