Crowd should have scooped Rich up and thrown him in the air on some "For he's a jolly good fellow" type ish at the end of this. Just a well run, well comprised event. Salute on that.
Top 4. I went specifically for Heavy Mother II and they did not disappoint. From the slow roll improv psych intro to the Louie Louie closer. Eddie asked, you all know what Portland is best known for right? Someone actually yelled out immediately, Louie Louie. A few years ago a local gallery in conjunction with i do not recall put on a 60th anniversary 24 hr Louie Louie tribute. Different bands played it for 15 minutes for 24 hours. After he says that someone in the band says, we haven't even played that one and Eddie says, you never practice this you just play it. But everything leading up to that was everything you could want.
Circulators were fantastic. Great show.
Geros and Tina!!! (thought the band really worked it out) were other personal standouts.
Missed Sleevens. Missed a few people but so it goes.
But 2 nights full of tight acts on a tight turnaround. there was plenty of time to leave the room and head outside but never egregious. I appreciate those things. good venue.
But yeah, great weekend, night one even had the Rose City Parade fireworks in the back. great view for that. Rich I'm sure don't have enough on your plate so book more stuff in Portland.
Oh, ha, during the HMII set Eddie mentions spending 3 hours with Richard Meltzer and said something like "some of these gentlemen spent 6 hours". Meltzer doing guided mushroom trips in his closing years? What 6 hour Meltzer sessions were going on off books?
