Grew up in DC suburbs in the 90s and of course Minor Threat, Bad Brains, G.I. etc loomed large. Fugazi was still around but hardly ever played live, only saw them once. More formative were the neo-harDCore bands on Torque Records like The Suspects and The Goons.

Saw the Goons play at the Black Cat just last year, still yelling about society and conformity and corporate America like it was 1996!

My adopted hometown is ruled by HC punker Guy who was in some infamous Japanese HC bands but also by my friend Nasu who has a record shop/cafe/bar, and puts on shows, organizes tours for non-HC punkers, and plays in the long-running Socho Pistons, late-era speed Ramones pop-punk. Prolly seen them more than 50 times over the last 20+ years

By some luck I landed in Columbus as a wee teen. The New Bomb Turks and Gaunt were the bands of my youth. But as I was coming up it became clear that I am exactly at the right place. Gibson Bros, Bassholes, Quotas, Great Planes, TJSA, Scrawl, Screaming Urge, Ronald Kole and The Trillionaires, Cheater Slicks, Human Suffrage, Painful Discharge. This town comes in spurts... And things are still going pretty well. DANA's been kicking around for some time. They are GREAT! Finally caught The Manic Splits. Blew me away... Columbus rules!
