I'm pretty much just a punker when it comes to Jay. I bought Teenage Hate blind in 1999 and I'm not sure I've ever loved a record more on first listen than that. All I really still jam with is pre-reformation Reatards and Bad Times. "Mama Told Me So" may be his best song ever. I listened to Lost Sounds Memphis Is Dead a lot back in the day but haven't listened to it in forever now.
I saw Lost Sounds, reformed Reatards, Angry Angles, and solo and I can't say I loved any of the live shows. The original Reatards videos like the one from Fallout Records look amazing, though.
Grown Up, Fucked Up, Persuaders, Lost Sounds, Blood Visions. The first Destruction Unit album, Teenage Hate
I like pretty much all of it. Not Fucked Enough has it's moments (the cover of Sour & Vicious Man is one).
Blood Visions tops, I think all the solo stuff comes up top. I'm a Watch me Fall defender. I'm always thinking about the song "I want Sex"
No mention of the Final Solutions!? I think I have them all but haven't played the albums in years...
“Fake Puke” is a modern classic.
Final Solutions were amazing. so much fun live with Jay berating the band between songs
Not Fucked Enough is a slept on Reatards release. It's what got me into the band and Jay's other stuff.
Over time the Lost Sounds 4th LP I would say it's my fav of his whole career. "Future Touch" is also amazing. They left the band at their top.
PaddyBullocks you put the Winter Coffin black metal single over Nervous Patterns? not sure i would go that far.
Reaccion Raul I agree.
Clif that was not a good call. I need to revisit the NP records - I seem to misremember some of their songs as Lost Sounds songs. I was thing more of Evil Army, not sure of Jay’s involvement, but I saw him play bass for them live & it ruled
PaddyBullocks i saw him play bass on the evil army tour too, it was indeed awesome. he never played on any recordings though, as far as I know.
PaddyBullocks Sector Zero 7”
Oh! Sector Zero should be much higher on your list if you ask me. Killer single
Gimmie Sopor i agree. to me, it's better than all solo stuff except Hammer 7" and Blood Visions and over Winter Coffin 7"
That handful of singles from the 2000s Reatards & Terror Visions feels like the only slight dip. Still, no flagrant false moves.
Black Wave is my favorite Lost Sounds. Massive record, feels like all the pieces click.
Mitch C. i waver between Black Wave & Rat’s Brains - Black Wave is probably more immersive and defines the whole aesthetic but then Rat’s Brains kicks a lot of ass
I never got to see the first run of Reatards live, but of everything I did see LOST SOUNDS live couldn't be topped. I haven't listened to the records in a long time though. Need to go back and revisit, but at the time Future Touch and the final album were my favorites of the Lost Sounds catalog. I thought they had the best Alicja songs. The first few Final Solutions 7"s and the first LP are some of the best punk of the 2000's. I was wild about the ANGRY ANGLES singles when they came out but that was one band where I didn't think Jay's breakneck live speed worked as well. Jay's catalog is huge though and nearly everything is top notch. I often think about what he would be doing now
