Going to see Devo and The B-52s in Manchester this coming weekend. I've seen The B-52s before but it'll be the first time for Devo. Managed to get a cheap ticket,w ere originally £100ish, got one for £30. Rezillos and Lene Lovich supporting. Just around the corner from probably my favourite pub in the country, the Marble Arch.

Well, Devo were everything I wanted them to be. B-52s were a lot less entertaining than seeing them pre-covid. But Kate's 78 and she's the most energetic member so it's to be expected. Apparently they switch headline spot nightly so verrrry happy I didn't have to see them follow Devo.

Saw The Dickies last night. the sound wasn't quite right (the drums were super loud, very hard rockin') but cannot fuck with Manny, Moe & Jack, (I'm Stuck In a Pagoda With) Tricia Toyota, Waterslide etc. Was fun and didn't go on too long. Interested to read Leonard's autobiography also.

Saw These Cursed Hands from PDX tonight. Death metal band. Not my usual thing but they were really fun. Singer climbed all over things and ran around getting into people's faces. The energy was off the charts. Hard to dislike a band giving a performance for 40 people.

Went to ZZ Top with Cheap Trick opening on Saturday. Friend had an extra ticket so hell yeah I went (great seats too). Cheap Trick were good but the sound was a bit distorted. Played the hits but no 'Southern Girls' (boo!). ZZ Top put on a great show. Frank Beard wasn't with them so it was Billy G, their new bass player and a drummer who no one recognized. Pretty cool stage setup. Nudie suits (or similar). Played all the hits you'd want to hear, a couple of deep album cuts and only one or maybe two new ones.

The Bats were really good.
Since then i had the chance to go see Århus punk legends Slængs and last week i went on a last minute trip across the water to see Toody and her band. Did'nt expect much but went home happy.
Next up is The Rebel plus a bunch of locals. Feeling spoiled.

Saw Jack White last week. Didn't pay, was on the guestlist for doing some work for Third Man. He had an incredible guitar tone, his songs do very little for me. The hottest gig I've ever been too, not sure how I made it to the end. Watching how into his (rabid) fans are was enjoyable. All-in-all glad it was free but glad I got to see something I ordinarily wouldn't. Livin' like a normie.

Clif He’s playing drums in Two Hearts. I’ve seen some footage and it was great. Really excited to have them come through.

Caught some local bands tonight, nothing to write home about, HOWEVER
Last night I saw Zeke open for Weedeater and holy crap, those guys still play so f'ing fast. I used to see them around the turn of the century (those years are pretty hazy). Weedeater were good. Saw them open for the Melvins & Napalm Death last year. Zeke hasn't lost a step though, amazingly aggressive show.

Al Dorado This is cool. I just had to look up some footage (i saw them a bunch of times 97-99). They still sound good. Fucking hell, looks like Sonny (guitar) died a few years ago. Looking them up they've played some PNW shows recently. I've been sleeping. fuck! would love to see them again based on the footage. Runnin' Shine was probably my favorite song in 1998.

Caught a couple of metal bands tonight. Usually not my steez unless it's Priest or Fudge Tunnel. Liked the bands though. Synesthesia (instrumental band but short songs so didn't get boring) and Metalmorfosis (who were missing their bass player and went on without him - terrible name btw). Anyway, was a good time. Also, lots of Sharks fans came in after the game which was pretty fun (witnessed lots of awkward drunken dancing to speed metal). Also, guy selling tamales out of his car trunk when we left. A good night.

Saw the mighty Sister Paul at Ruby Room in Shibuya tonight. When I got in there, a sort of talky-proggy-punk band was wrapping up. Sister Paul got on stage and tore it up. For those unfamiliar, they’re a long running Japanese band whose current live iteration is a bass and drums two piece. They both sing. Their set ran the gamut: short garage punk songs, glammy stompers, anthemic power pop, and even a bleepy-bloopy sample and synth pedal experimental interlude. Artists that crossed my mind during the set: Joan Jett, Wreckless Eric, Charlie Megira, Alice Cooper, Monochrome Set. Ruby Room is about the size of a shoebox but it was full of adoring fans. Great show!
