We're both pretty obsessive about music, and our venn diagram overlaps a decent %. She is 6 years younger and grew up with a different mainstream and underground, so there's that sorta stuff. She loves dancing (I hate it), so Industrial and Goth are way bigger for her. Nasty, noisy punk and hardcore are bigger for me. It works. I know some think it's better with no overlap, so there aren't as many petty arguments, which does happen, but I'd prefer we understood each other's infatuations.
