I saw "I'm Still Here" in the theater today. About the Brazilian military dictatorship disappearing a dissident in 1970. Based on true story. Especially terrifying in the current political context. Killer, killer soundtrack, as you could guess.

Clearing my Sunday schedule to watch Tomata du Plenty's scifi musical:

Saw the Dylan movie a week ago. It was fine. I'm kind of over slick musician biopics. At least it was at the small fancy theater that sells beer and taro gelato. The Brutalist is playing there now so think we're gonna check that out next.

Gimmie Sopor If you're looking for a legit '80s arthouse punk movie, check out the German dystopian sci-fi flick Decoder on YouTube. Featuring Einstürzende Neubauten's F.M. Einheit as an anti-hero noise musician and prominent counterculture figures such as William S. Burroughs and Genesis P-Orridge in supporting roles.

this look's sick! will add it to my list... on the topic of German sci-fi's, watched World on a Wire recently, a made-for-TV two parter by Fassbinder about a simulation model that gets outta control, proto-Matrix stuff that i'm surprised i'd never heard of til my partner told me about it -- it ruled!

Seeing this at my local theater next month. Looks dignified.

Love World on a Wire. I'm generally not too big on sci-fi stuff but have a soft spot for the lower-tech projects. Went on a Fassbinder binge a couple years ago and that was a definite highlight, alongside Lola and Fox and His Friends.

Hadn't seen Planet Terror by Robert Rodriguez in ages, watched is yesterday and had a good time, even if it was a bit slower than what I remembered.

Some very excellent movies in this thread already. I recently watched Leos Carax's latest, It's Not Me, and yesterday I watched his first, Boy Meets Girl. I've been really into post-French New Wave French movies lately I suppose!

finally watched that wrecking crew doc, pretty fun thing to watch while stuck in bed with the flu.

Mor this looks like a good one. Gonna watch World On a Wire once I finish cleaning my office

Got lucky and caught World on Wire at the local art house theater a year or two ago. Anything Fassbinder is A++++++.

Will be watching these soon - both full films are on YT:

'70s Japanese Fast and Furious with jazz ST

The trailer makes it look very dramatic but it's a comedy - I watched the beginning but decided to wait until I can watch it with my waifu...
Just ran across this about the director and some good commentary on Japanese films in the west - I skipped the part about the above movie. I have heard of his "Japanese Columbo" but have to yet to watch it...

The Warners Classic official YouTube channel has been putting up some full film bangers. Burt Reynolds, Clint Eastwood, Madeline Kahn & Richard Fucking Roundtree in a neo noir.

Warners Classics also has the 24 hour Tom & Jerry livestream, which is perfect to leave on mute on the TV while you're doing other shit. No dialogue means you ain't missing anything.

I saw the new Captain American Eagle flick.

It was nice to be back in the Bagdad theater.

Saw Becoming Led Zeppelin at the little art house theater this evening. I'm not much of a fan but it was good. Over two hours but didn't feel like it was that long.

At one point there was a photo shown of a marquee with Country Joe and the Fish headlining over LZ. I inadvertently made an audible "ugh" sound. I think people heard me

Al Dorado I want to go see it tomorrow but I’m gonna go IMax if at all possible. Went and saw Wild Zero tonight at the Hollywood. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve last seen it. I really hope they find a way to make Wild Zero 2. This trailer is insane

Randall The art house sells beer and fancy gelato. Also no previews. Lights go down, movie starts. There's also a good dive bar a few blocks away if one is up for it

BORN INNOCENT: The Redd Kross story w in-person McDonald brothers Q&A last night at the Hollywood was a much needed shot in the arm.

Dodge there are some wild stories in that doc!

Dodge I was there too! I was blown away. Succeeded in telling the rock n roll brothers in LA story where the Sparks doc didn’t.

Rewatched Terminator 2: Judgment Day. I've probably seen it half a dozen times, but it's been so long that revisiting it has given it a certain freshness. Totally holds up. I would say it is a more or less perfect sci-fi action flick and one of the few sequels that is at least as good as the first one. It would have been a perfect end to the saga of evil robots from the future, but as usual Hollywood thought otherwise. I also discovered that there are six films in total and not four as I thought. I didn't know about 2015's Terminator Genisys and 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate from 2019, but they seem to be complete rubbish if we go by the opinions of various critics and keyboard warriors.

rewatched T2 recently too, what an all-timer hey? such a drag that all these other terminator's exist to dump shit on the originals. Alien and Terminator franchises are so weirdly similar in that respect... two near perfect originals and then total dross thereafter... i dream of the day when the never ending franchise reboot sequel extended universe complex implodes and we get NEW THINGS in the cinema again..

watched antonioni's RED DESERT (1964) the other night, i think his first in colour? it was great... the most bonkers shots of industrial Italy over the top of a nervous breakdown, real good stuff to zone out and sink into.

Dodge 1976-1981 Los Angeles, I don't think that full story will ever be told. I comb original issues of Slash and there's stuff in there -- a lot of it unrecorded bands that existed briefly -- that I still discover. There's the bad stuff too.

I haven't seen Alien 3 for a long time, but I remember it being pretty decent. The rest of the franchise is crap though. In any case, it's not on par with the first two, so the prospect of a "perfect trilogy" was ruined there.

BARELY HUMAN i dream of the day when the never ending franchise reboot sequel extended universe complex implodes and we get NEW THINGS in the cinema again..

Yep. At least when it comes to Hollywood, where nostalgia and safe bets tend to outweigh creativity.

                    BARELY HUMAN RED DESERT

It's been a few years but I loved this movie when I first watched it. Might have to revisit it again. Thanks for the reminder.

                    DRUK (Another Round) 2020

Danish movie about 4 middle aged teachers experimenting with on-the-job day-drinking.

Was having a tough day Sunday and my friend suggested I throw on It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Can't believe it took me so long to sit down with this one. Still remarkably funny! Quite a bit darker than I was expecting too. Jonathan Winters tearing down an entire gas station with his bare hands. Magic. Dick Shawn rules in it too, but it's hard to pin down favorite performances amongst so many top-tier ones. Wild that it's the same director as Inherit the Wind!

Watched Godland the other night. Well technically over the course of a few nights because I kept falling asleep. The movie is pretty slow but the sleep had more to do with my tendency to do so than the film itself.
It’s an Iceland film from 2022 about a 19th century Danish priest sent to Iceland to establish a church and his struggles to maintain sanity while trudging through the rough undeveloped terrain of Iceland over the course of a nightless summer. Slow and uneasy but really enjoyed it. Apparently the story was built around five pictures that were discovered from that time frame which are also the first five pictures of Iceland. It’s up on criterion right now

Watched Butcher's Crossing on a whim as was surprised & quite into it. Had assumed I'd never see Nicolas Cage in a decent movie ever again, but enjoyed Pig , so why not give this a go? Anyway, very much in the spirit of 70s tough-guy cult classics, so much in that mold that you imagine it being made then and held 'til now...'cept it would've starred Bronson or Burt. Worth a look!

BARELY HUMAN rewatched T2 recently too, what an all-timer hey?

Rewatched it 2 days ago thanks to this thread, and I couldn’t believe how good it was – usually when I smoke weed I have the attention span of a rabbit, especially with movies, but this one kept me entertained ALL THE WAY, even after the 3rd joint. Well done, Governor!

I just rewatched Terminator 2 last night. So good.

Total Punk forum wholesale approval of the Terminator 2 rewatch!
