i'm usually pretty on top of my stuff, but there are some things that just truly disappeared into the ether. had a truly treasured copy of THE OMEGAS 'joy boy' mix tape that i found in Montreal for next to nothing that just disappeared from my sydney sharehouse one day ten years ago -- i still rearrange my tapes lookin for it as tho it'll somehow reappear, really gives me the shits!

funniest reappropriation story was a copy of one of the DIGITAL LEATHER 7"s i picked up from the states at some point, don't think they ever really made their way over to australia so it was relatively hard to find and i didn't know anyone else who liked them or knew 'em. loaned the 7" to my girlfriend of the time back in 2014 or so and never got it back during the break up so cut my losses.. years later i come back from overseas and move into a new sharehouse in 2018, and after a few weeks i walk through the lounge room and DIGITAL LEATHER is playing. it really freaks me out so i ask my housemate, 'holy shit where'd you get this!?' took us a while to figure out the chain of events haha

Lost some of those early Sun City Girls cassettes back in the early 90s - I bought them directly from the band when I happened to live on the same block as Rick Bishop in Seattle! (the return address was on my same block and Rick handled the mail order - I was too nervous to go to his house introduce myself!)

I left them in the car in the summer and they melted...still have one or two of them

TomDash ah man that's the pits... had a similar thing happen when i moved house around the time MORDECAI's College Rock was released.. set my record player up in this nice spot in the window and left the record on the turntable in the middle of a sydney summer. came home and it had bubbled and warped like nothing i'd ever seen before; completely unplayable, wouldn't even fit in the sleeve. actually ended up framing it haha, and i guess i threw it out in the end cos no idea where it went. luckily someone sold a bunch of 2010s records to Repressed a while back and i picked up another copy for like $10 or somethin haha

Old roommate stole a bunch of records, books, dvds and an iPod from me in like 2017. Found out he died a couple weeks ago. Karma rules

Also there was that time a guy stole the CRIME 7" boxset from M. B8bot's porch and I found them on craigslist. Very funny

Left a box of 45s on the bus while going to do my radio show. Used to have a luggage bag on wheels stuffed to the brim and brought some extra in a 45 case. Had it on the seat beside me and straight up just got off the bus without them and didn't realize until I was in the station. Couldn't tell you what was in there now so I guess not anything crazy

Saw FNU Ronnie's and TV Ghost and grabbed a bunch of merch ended up drinking/drugging with some homies in trinity bell woods park and ran for the vomit comet at like 4 am and left it all behind to be swallowed up into oblivion

Public transport seems to be the culprit here.

Tons of records dissaperad to ex room mates /gfs . My one ex room mate has gifted me my own records for Xmas

Took me a little bit to admit, yes I am the thief.
20 years ago dropped out of a certain college and inadvertently still have a Neutral Records pressing of Sonic Youth's first EP....if you're reading this "A" I apologize and you should probably come after me.

Does taking from the college radio station count? My station was mostly jazz and classical so my buddy who worked there would share some of the promo vinyl with us. I still have a Rollins Band 'Weight' on clear in my "to sell" box (which goes for a fair amount on Discogs). He gave my college GF a promo/first pressing of Dookie cause she was a big Green Day fan (the Lookout! stuff).

Every Sunday night was their alt/punk/whatever night so the station was on the major label gravy train. We got show tickets, promo swag, all that. Now you think about it and that was all promo budget spend that most of those bands never re-couped. Sorry Possum Dixon!

I had a hammock accommodation on the beach in Oaxaca years ago and tripped on acid one night - falling asleep right before dawn with the vague memory of people walking along the beach. Woke to find my backpack with a cassette of Yo La Tengo's "Big Day Coming" (a fav for tripping back then) and Terence McKenna's "Food of the Gods" had been stolen from under my hammock. At least the ex-girlfriend would probably listen to the records she purloined - or give them to the next bf...
