paperhose Anecdotal evidence for why this is a good idea: I have met one person who ended up in therapy because of how they were treated on terminal boredom forums.

Holy fuck, man!

My primary suggestion would be to focus on the strengths of this type of format, which would be it is easy to find stuff that was posted longer ago and keep adding to that. Many of us are on the Facebook Budget rock group where you can yammer about a record for a day or two and then never need to reference that discussion again. It's just mindless drivel. A forum like this should be more of a longer term record.

Where this would be the most helpful is in the Travel section where there could be long running locally specific threads about record stores, book stores, clubs, restaurants, arthouse cinemas, or whatever in any city and you can just find the Lexington, El Paso, Phoenix, or whatever thread and it is all right there.

Totally agree here, one of the things I miss most about the old message boards is being able to get travel advice from like minded folks.

Kevin E yes! To this point I want the Takin The City By Storm section to be more than show listings. I’ll try to start a Portland city guide today and encourage others to do the same

Anyone know why about half of all Youtube links posted show up as not viewable for me? Because I'm in Canada? Links work when I click on them once they take me to Youtube.

has to do with the way the original uploader uploads to YT. I think you can 'disable external sharing' or something, thus forcing you to click through to youtube (maybe so they get the revenue? i dunno)

I was reading about this issue because I was avoiding work at my real job. SUPPOSEDLY our zillionaire admin overlords can add something to the config and/or clear the cache and then it will work. (If they’re not too busy getting blood transfusions on their super yachts, that is.)

I have no idea of course ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

i believe our admin who handles things kind of thing is actually on his super yacht off the coast of Mexico now, but I’ll pass the info on @Señor Scratchy

Wouldn't it more convenient to have pages in threads (even with many posts) to view older posts, rather than the timeline bar on the right?

I've been logged out and when I try to log in again I can't access my original Gimmie Sopor account. How do I solve this?

Is there an accessible Members List so I can see when @Sukebe_GG is online so I can launch strings of horrifically insensitive slurs at him, none of which have been tolerated in polite society since 2009?

paperhose Can verify Termbo at the end was brutal. I tried to keep the content section going with interviews, but by the end a lot of the informative posters left and things oscillated between the message board being moribund to literal libel of a good friend I knew -- heavy, false accusations that I refuted. Unfortunately, it was all that remained with the Goner Board dying earlier. I can't stress how important that site was for labels doing 300-run 7"s. Talking with Larry Hardy and even ITR had trouble moving Termbo-friendly releases once the site started waning. That's how much weight it carried for underground music.

People are gonna spin out -- that's the nature of message boards -- but if we can keep things generally productive, that's key to the forum's longevity.

I do have poor taste in music and my politics -- reading McKenzie Wark's history of the Situatonists now -- are horrible. I've been reminded of this many times, especially since 2016. I think what happened was the board turned more into just a wasteland, people trolling, and a shell of what it once was -- seldom updated (the period between record reviews got longer and longer). And it was an amazing resource. Rich did God's work. Thank you, Rich.

                  Let's bring that magic back.
