spent the weekend seeing a lot of live music, maybe that merits it's own thread?
Bloodshot bill playing to 25 people with an out of tune acoustic and taking requests. pretty great, he has so much dirtbag charisma, i don't own any of his records, but i've seen him play in different permutations over the past 15-20 yrs and he is a real showman. His Hasil is uncanny, but this was a more trad sing song affair and enjoyable.
Later: New club in Montreal that used to be a venue 15-20 yrs ago and is back with a different name. It's under a spanish club, so popped in on some flamenco which was nice for one beer. Lotsa dancing and the room had a wholesome drunk on. Downstairs in the punk dungeon I caught Durex, a local punk band that has been going for a year or two that I had yet to see. They were pretty rockin and had some wild licks interspersed with a more straight ahead attack. everyone all night was talking eggpunk irl, haha. Last night I saw Population ii, a local psych/prog outfit that i haden't seen since we gigged together in their first year or 2. They were playing a film fest and the room was rammed. It was pretty hot shit and with the right amount of leafy haze really hit the spot. They have a goofy mideivel stance, no costumes just an aura, which is kinda endearing and they are so in synch with eachother that it is quite something to watch. The instrumental grooves/ herky jerky turn on a dime moments are where it's at. No idea if their recordings do it justice.
At home: my friend sent me mp3s of this obscure industrialish tape from 86 ontario, and I spent lotsa time with that. Wigglepig - https://www.discogs.com/release/3895929-Wigglepig-Meat-Market-Icons
