A while back Rapid Adapter posted Machete by Bejuco

Album was so great. I listened to it over and over. I started listening to another album on the label by Semblanzas del Río Guapi which is equally incredible.

I listened to the albums so many times I started to doubt it was real and finally went lookin for information about the bands. Turns out they are from western Columbia and the label, Discos Pacífico, started in 2020 focusing on Pacific music, Afro-Colombian sounds.

What stood out to me immediately was this

I'm sure many to most know USAID was completely shut down so there is that fuckery side of it, but i say that to say this, is there any sort of collected list of government/grant funded labels? Learning about this was probably the first time in my life I felt like money well spent.

Woah interesting stuff... Hadn't heard of USAID getting involved with recording activities, especially being as recent as 2020... would love to know more about the background of this kind of thing, particularly with USAID's history in the cold war, CIA links and soft power magic dust its been responsible for elsewhere. Punk as western propaganda in 2020 is somethin!

I haven't figured out the loan or grant or whatever. USIAD has given $3.5billion to Columbia since 2007. I don't see anything about music and a lot of it is funded into stuff like: DOMESTIC AWARDEES (UNDISCLOSED) and i don't see it under their name. Who knows. it'd be cool if it was funneled into like 6 different funds just to get to a record label.
