A Case for Hatching: My Eulogy for Egg Punk Explained by Martin Meyer
i blame henry rollins for egg punk
Randall it’s under the write-up for the most recent record on the Inscrutable Bandcamp.
Interesting take but personally I’m still obsessed with first drafts, first takes, “instant music”, which to me does not necessarily reference egg punk. I think a lot of special mistakes, improvisation, and that lightning in a bottle magic can be missed when you’re spending copious amounts of time working on a song/recording. First thought best thought is not always the best route but it’s worth exploring. But hell what do I know.
It’s a scandal Randall!
it was DD Owenn

Clif Not Missoula. The band was not dd owen related. Not from Montana. Older members were cool then and I would say friends now (I hope). Younger members 100% deserve a pass / my nerdy self deserved some teasing too.
Not hard to believe some hick kid out there is downloading egg punk crap and might accidentally hear puppet wipes, xv, and heavy mother 2 on johnny sicks youtube page. How can that bother anyone?
peeblood yep. I'm pretty sure the "freeform freakouts" on the first Red Krayola indulge this principle as well.
paperhose this type of arrogance doesn't come from a place of deep knowledge. The more narrow your view of music, the more likely you are to conflate things in a reductive way.
Marty is hip but this specific tirade could just as easily apply to any hyper specific genre that is purely aesthetic. Less talk more rockin outside the box says me.
It was easy, it was cheap, go and…make multiple drafts, sit on them for a while, have a think, tinker with the song over time, re-record it as many times as necessary, then release it when the results are stunning!

Haha. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it
What if every band ripped off television personalities instead of devo

ripping off and being inspired are two different things. Thats why in the 1960s, most bands inspired by The Beatles were and still are fantastic.
there are some great young bands now who are inspired by the tvps or martin newell, but they make it their own and that comes out in the songwriting especially. this so-called egg punk or whatever people wanna call it, all sounds the same and is completely lifeless - theyre not singing about anything and its all sped up garbage to hide the insecurities and make a buck.
I think it’s weird that the Dumpers are considered the forefathers of egg punk. Seems that Coneheads hold that distinction. I’d rather not hear the term egg punk again but arguing about it seems rather silly. Just read the bandcamp description and it still seems odd to me that with the exception of Snooper anyone got upset about this.
hotsounds lol “make a buck”
