If you're ever in Santa Fe, come to The Matador!! Probably the only spot in the state where you can get whiskey and stare at Cramps posters.
Best Dive Bar In Your Town
dr_chile The way they pour, a shot comes out to more like 2.5 shots.

There's still a good handful of old places here where nothing seems to have changed the last decades. And you can still smoke inside. There's even a coffee table book featuring photos of these places within Copenhagen and a exihibition at the city museum.

No good ones in my city but best dive bar in Osaka is Kanmuriya...beyond a dive, more like a dump tho
Columbus has a lot of good options still:
-Dick's Den: old man style bar with regulars there from open to close, also do jazz nights. $1.75 High Lifes at happy hour.
-O'Reilly's: Irish neighborhood bar with cheap beer and decent food.
-Dirty Dungarees: Laundromat that hosts shows and has a full bar. Pre-Covid it was great, a ton of good shows all on a donation/cut from the bar deal. Since then, it's got new ownership and mostly holds shitty hardcore shows where the space gets trashed. Still good for a drink at off-hours.
-Cafe Bourbon Street still holding things down as well.
Not really aware of a good one left in Boston area. The Silver Dollar in Butte, MT is one of the best in the world.
Sukebe_GG Looks like my apartment in my early 20s
I live in Buffalo, NY, and we have a ton of neighborhood dive bars. The Old Pink burned down over the summer, which sucked, but there's Adolf's Old 1st Ward Tavern, Essex Street Pub, Rohall's, Kelly's Korner, Tudor Lounge, Jolly Jug, Del Denby's, Wellington Pub, Moor Room, Mr. Goodbar, and that's just one weekend in town.

Albuquerque is really lacking in dive bars. Most places going for a dive vibe are too nice, too popular and too expensive. The closest thing to a dive is probably Gecko's which hilariously bills itself as having tapas (they consider mozz sticks a tapas item). Their beer list is pretty good, and they have a lot of allocated bourbons on their whiskey list that they haven't stocked in years. Smells like stale beer and dirty fryer oil. Not a bad spot, all in. Most everywhere else in town is a microbrewery, not a lot of honest-to-god watering holes with shot-and-a-beer deals. A lot of folks just go to Chili's. Dire.
Sister Bar has a $10 cheeseburger, fries and a High Life special which is about the only deal in town. Atmosphere is cleaned up rocker bar, and it's way too large and crowded to be a dive. They've got a decent collection of pinball machines.
I miss Tucson's dive bar scene. The Shelter, Che's Lounge, the Buffet, the Red Garter, the Meet Rack. An incredible breadth of true dive experiences.
Coldwater, MI. It's Omar's. Darkly lit classic dive bar. Decor hasn't changed much since the 60's/70's. Red, the owner took over the bar from his mom when he got back from vietnam. Good cheap drinks. Cash only.
Kalamazoo, MI. The Sugarbowl. Another relatively unchanged classic dive bar. Used to be a good place to get stabbed. New owners turned it around without erasing It's charm. They make the best burgers in town, serve Hamm's with a pickle, and sometimes host punk shows. I occasionally DJ there along with Goner board veterans Useless Eater, Blackjack and Dutch Hercules

Ended up reading and drinking beer into the early hours in Tjili Pop in Nørrebro when working in CPH last year. Liked that place a lot.
terminalsunset Work brought me to Albuquerque last summer. It's a cool city, but I was stunned at how dead everything was by 10pm. I couldn't find a latenight spot during the week that was open for a beer or two.
Does the Sil in Allston, MA still give out free popcorn?
Ben Lyon if you ever find yourself in Muskegon Michigan, I’d recommend Mike’s Inn
Yeah, my pals in ABQ basically echo the same thing. I wish Low Spirits was still around. Had the privilege of seeing Total Control play there in 2010 or 2011?? They loved the city.
lmao and yeah Gecko's is a joke. It's a nice spot, but 100% the opposite of tapas.
I went to school at UNM around 2008!
nonsenseorgan Good call.
There is also some deal where you can get a rat+hotdog tat, and then eat free hotdogs there for life. They have shows on Tuesdays lately too.
Sukebe_GG Oh shit, the owner probably lives there too, right?
Poorcow in Tokyo. Fifi from Teengenerate/Tweezers/Firestarter owns it. He has a few thousand records there to listen to and it basically makes you feel like you’re visiting his living room. It gets super smoky in there and it’s on the 4th floor with no elevator, but it’s worth it. Fifi makes good stiff drinks. Just be really careful with those steps carrying your drunk ass down the steep narrow steps. My husband fell off it twice, ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks the first time, and a visit to the ER the second time
