Some years ago my now 8-year-old daughter picked The Go-Go's "Vacation" out of my record stack simply because it had a rainbow on the spine of the jacket easily visible and she still loves The Go-Go's.

          When my girlfriend's daughter was younger she would sing "People Who Died" by the Jim Carroll band. Now she's 12 and just listens to Billie Eilish and Chappell Roan and scowls at me

          Yesterday I discovered not only does she have great taste but she is also a gatekeeper. She didn’t want to return her Scooby Doo DVD to the library because she was worried it would be checked out by someone who doesn’t love Scooby Doo as much as her.
