ROCK DOCS

Vinnie Vacuum

Probably my most watched genre tbh, post your favorites. I'm always looking for recommendations to add to my watchlist so sound off on some music docs worth checking out. I got so many to list but was inspired after recently re-viewing this to start this thread, so I'll start with this one.

connie voltaire

Vinnie Vacuum hell yeah. ROSS

Al Dorado

New C.O.F.F.I.N doc (from last week). Good watch.

Sad that I missed the B-Hole Surfers movie when it came through town. Hopefully I can catch it somehow sometime soon.

I really enjoyed Desolation Center. People should see it. A ragtag community working together to realize a strange vision. Cool stuff. Pretty sure I remember a scene about how this kid saw Einstürzende Neubauten while on acid and it blew his mind and healed him. Seemed relatable.

Related, amazing.

So many of choices on Tubi, kinda bonkers.

The Secret Lives Of Bill Bartell was surprisingly good. White Flag is not a band I often get the urge to hear, but this was still a fun watch. Total character, able to worm his way into so much shit. Dude became a cop cuz he had a horny fetish for them. Total punk freak.

Born Innocent: The Redd Kross Story met expectations. Didn't really learn anything, but reinforced how cool those dudes are.

Vinnie Vacuum

Mitch C. Both incredible docs and I agree white flag never tickled my fancy but yeah what a genuine eccentric that guy was

Other, Like Me: The Oral History of COUM Transmissions and Throbbing Gristle:

Putting this on my list. Looks fantastic.

It's not specifically related to Throbbing Gristle, but I really enjoyed the The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye. Super interesting and romantic and it made me weepy for the beauty of humankind.

filthqueen666

Really beautiful, heartbreaking but also joyful. A doc about Poly Styrene, directed by and featuring Poly’s daughter.

I heard rumors this might get an expanded release. Compilation of interviews, old DIY music videos, and shows ranging through all decades of Devo.

Not sure if this was posted already:

A very cool 8-minute piece about Dr. Demento and V. Vale from RE/Search publications. (This is a rock doc, right?)

Didn't know that Dr. Demento started his radio career in Portland, not too far from where I live. I was pretty into him in high school.
