This is probably the last cassette we're going to do. NAC has raised their prices considerably. Don't know if that's attributable to their monopoly position or another nauseating analog "revival" push by major players or both. But what used to be around $200 a few years ago is now over $400 for a small run. We didn't do a lot of tapes, but I was hoping to do more so there'd be a physical format for this music. A document, so to speak. It wouldn't just die in the digital ether of the internet.
The future prospects for underground music don't look good in a streaming world. Eric Drott recently released a good book on the way streaming has impacted music. He posits it's a privatized commons. It's a seemingly contradictory term but one where music is essentially free (pending one pays for Spotify) on the consumption end -- an endless supply of music -- but not on the producing end.
Like most everyone on here, I put a lot of years into this and it's hard to watch it belly flop.
